Ok, I had "narrowed " it down to the buteo's this morning. The dark patagial marks are pointing me to the red-tailed hawk.

You've seen a very common buteo. The sharpie is the smallest of the accipiters....try that for a start.

Thanks for the catch. Even with the guidebooks it's tough for a rookie like me to correctly identify these birds. I've done some research online on my breaks at work and I'm still not sure of it's identification. I'm going to look at a couple of other pictures I took before my next guess.

Yes, I do fly commercial. But I live on an airport in north Denver, called Erie Municipal. That's where I often fly from (or to) with our little feathered friends on board.

Yesterday, I watched a Northern Harrier shop our crosswind runway for Prarie Dog Sushi. What a treat....
